Don’t Be Such An Asshole Barry

Barry Bonds this blog needs sports

Recently Barry Bonds has apologized for being so difficult during his career.
Pointing blame on himself more than anyone else.
Does it matter at this point?
He has been retired for how long?
He still hit all those home runs, steroids or not.
So an apology at this time is nice, but…
Does it matter?
I will relate it to Pascal’s Wager, which has nothing to do with baseball, but has been on my mind as well, because of philosophy videos.
He apologized.
That is what matters.
If he does it enough maybe he just may actually feel bad for being such an asshole.
Maybe.
See Pascal said that your best bet is to believe in God.
Because you have the most benefits.
There are four options.
You believe and he does exist.
In which case, you win.
You believe and he doesn’t exist.
In which case, you don’t really lose anything.
You don’t believe and he does exist.
In which case, you lose.
You don’t believe and he doesn’t exist.
In which case, you don’t really lose anything.
So you believe in God.
Even if you don’t really believe.
If you start with that belief then you will actually start believing him as you will then do religious things, like go to church or pray.
I expect that Bonds will have this approach to self-reflecting on his career.
He will look back on it and say that he made mistakes.
Does he believe it?
Eventually he just may.
See apologizing for Bonds is like what Pascal said about God.
If Bonds does apology and get into the Hall then he wins.
If he apologizes and doesn’t get into the Hall, then he loses.
If he doesn’t apologize and he gets into the Hall, then he wins (although he would still be hated)
If he doesn’t apologize and he doesn’t get into the Hall, then he loses big time.
So he might as well apologize.
What is the worst that can happen?

On another note, I bet someone got to Bond’s ear and told him to stop being such an asshole.
You won’t get into the Hall if they hate you Barry.
No matter how great you are, getting into the Hall Of Fame is political.
The writers have to like you .
If they don’t like you, regardless of the reason, then they will hold that against you.
People who would vote for you, won’t give you a chance not because of your skill, but because they want to get back at you.
You treated them bad once, and this is their time to make you pay.
Is this a publicity stunt?
Does Bonds really mean it?
I don’t know.
I can’t act like I am talking to Barry Bonds everyday.
But from a personal side and a friend’s perspective, it seems like the smart move is to apologize for his behavior during his career.
